Biography

Damian Murchan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. Formerly, he has held teaching and leadership positions in primary education along with advisory and development roles in curriculum/policy formulation.

Research Expertise

Development of formative interventions in primary children's mathematics learning based on application of diagnostic tests; Impact of large-scale professional development inititives to support curriculum reform; Curriculum planning processes at school and teacher levels; School-based assessment methods in primary and secondary education. Dr. Murchan contributes articles to scholarly journals (see selected referred papers) in additon to regularly presenting at premier academic conferences: American Educational Research Association (AERA); Association for Educational Assessment - Europe (AEA-E); Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI); European Conference on Educational Research (ECER); International Professional Development Association (IPDA); British Educational Research Association (BERA). He has also developed policy links with a number of countries in the Balkans region (Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Croatia), co-ordinating professional development services and support to groups of key policymakers and educators. Support has been provided abroad and based in Trinity College.
