Everyday, we turn on lights in our places of work and study and sometimes, we turn them off. In our homes we have direct ownership of the electricity bill which encourages us to save electricity. This means making sure the lights are turned off when not in use and switching the lighting to more efficient technology like LED lights. In our places of work and study we don’t pay for the electricity so does it matter turning off lighting or do we care what sort of lighting is used. You will be surprised!!!!
The School of Physics “Mechanical Workshop” reduced 0.65 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year by switching from fluorescent bulbs to LED Lighting. This lighting replacement saved an estimated €832 per annum on TCD’s Electricity costs. Overall lighting of the workshop was improved making the environment more comfortable and safer. Lamp life was doubled which reduces the amount of service calls to E&F for bulb replacements and reduces bulb waste.
