The Annual Trinity Regatta at Islandbridge (April 19th) was another sporting success in this year's College calendar, bolstered further by the coming together of Boat Club Alumni from as far as Australia, USA and Canada.
A total of 136 races were safely organised, marshalled and umpired by the student-led Committee, attracting 23 clubs from Ireland and the UK. The head to head between the Novice Men's 8+ of Trinity and University College Dublin proved to be the race of the day, having shared honours recently in the Annual Colours fixture and the University Championships. The roars of support from Trinity spectators on the Islandbridge side drowned out the UCD support on the other side of the river and the Trinity lads pipped their rivals on the line to claim victory. This was a fitting end to a fabulous day of racing which also saw the involvement of leading school crews from Portora Royal School, Enniskillen and Reading Blue Coat, England.
The true value and essence of the Trinity Regatta was epitomised by the Trinity Senior VIII of 1969 who once again donned the colours of DUBC and took to the water to relive their significant victories at university and national levels that year.
