Dublin University Badminton Club secured the 2011 Colours title when they competed against UCD recently at the annual event hosted by UCD. Both teams put in impressive performances however it was the Trinity team that dominated on the night, winning 15 of the 16 matches.
Colours sporting events see sports men and women from UCD and TCD battle it out for what some consider the most important title of the year. Held at the end of each academic year, the event allows both universities showcase their respective talent on court. Following on from their success at the Intervarsity competition in Limerick, a strong Trinity side played fast, attacking badminton which proved too much for their UCD rivals.
Speaking after the event, President of DU Badminton Club Kevin Kerrigan said: “Badminton at Trinity is definitely on the up! Dublin University Badminton Club is lucky enough to have a very strong group of players who are committed to representing their University. The comprehensive victory at this year’s Colours match is a testament to the strength of our teams and the level of talent at hand. Exciting things are happening on the Trinity badminton scene and we are looking forward to another successful year when the club resumes training in September.”
