Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin recently announced its plans for four new exhibitions in 2013, launched by Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan T.D. Science Gallery Director Michael John Gorman was also joined by Science Gallery Leonardo and co-founder of Coder Dojo James Whelton, David Dalton, Partner at Deloitte, and John McColgan, Director of Riverdance, Chair of World Irish and Science Gallery board member at the event.
Science Gallery’s first exhibition of 2013 will explore the world of vibrations, oscillations, and feedback. OSCILLATOR will feature everything from cyclical chemical reactions to swinging bridges, and out-of-control automated pricing schemes to weather phenomena. Next, RISK LAB will feature experiments that span neuroscience, genetics, and the mathematics, and will explore how we determine the probability of everything from a car crash to a coin toss. Science Gallery’s summer show, ILLUSION, will explore the neuroscience and physics of illusion, and investigate how perception underpins how we see, feel, think and understand the world. Finally, LIVING MACHINES will tackle the provocative questions raised by synthetic biology, evoking the themes of living versus non-living, human versus nature, and design versus evolution.

Speaking at the announcement, Science Gallery Founding Director Michael John Gorman said, “In 2012 Science Gallery welcomed its 1,000,000th visitor after just four years of existence. In 2013 we are inviting our visitors to dream big, through a dynamic programme of future-facing exhibitions and events. From creating new organisms through synthetic biology to the science of risk, our exhibition programme will draw art and science into creative collisions to spark off new ideas around frontier areas of science and technology and help inspire the next generation of creative minds. Science Gallery is also expanding internationally, and we are excited to be partnering with King’s College London on developing a Science Gallery in London Bridge. Science Gallery depends on a passionate circle of supporters, and it is exciting to be able to announce two major new Science Gallery supporters today in Deloitte and Pfizer, both deeply committed to driving innovation in Ireland”.
Speaking at the launch Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht said “2013 is also going to be the year of the Gathering and with over a quarter of a million visitors expected by the end of this year alone, Science Gallery is certainly a success story that we will be eager for all the visitors to Ireland to hear about and see”.
Also Science Gallery welcomed two new Science Circle supporters – Pfizer, one of the world’s premier research-based pharmaceutical companies, and Deloitte, leading audit, tax, consulting, and corporate finance experts.
