Norris Elected on First Count

Posted on: 27 April 2016

David Norris was last night elected on the first count of ballots for the constituency of the University of Dublin. He claimed 4,070 first preference votes from a total valid poll of 16,064. Senator Norris was well ahead of the next nearest candidate, Ivana Bacik with 2,853.

Counting to fill the remaining two seats continues in the Exam Hall.

Senator Norris will resume his role as 'father' of the house when the new Seanad convenes. This is the person who has the longest continuous record of service. In Seantor Norris's case this is 30 years.
