Renowned Irish playwright, Marina Carr has been appointed to the honorary position of adjunct professor of Drama at Trinity College Dublin’s School of Drama , Film and Music.
As Adjunct Professor, Marina is co-teaching playwriting as part of the M.Phil in Theatre and Performance along with Dr Melissa Sihra, Lecturer in Drama Studies. This is the first time that playwriting has been taught at postgraduate level in the School of Drama and the course will culminate in a showcase of new writing by students. Under the revised and expanded M.Phil in Theatre and Performance, to begin in October 2009, Marina will teach a full postgraduate course on playwriting.
Carr, who is one of Ireland ‘s most distinguished and accomplished playwrights, has currently two new plays premiering in Ireland , Marble at the Abbey Theatre and the Giant Blue Hand in the Ark cultural centre for children in Dublin . Marina ‘s multi-award winning plays have been translated and performed all over the world and her play, The Cordelia Dream, was produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the end of last year. Marina ‘s works are also taught and produced internationally in university drama, theatre and English literature degree courses and are the subject of ongoing academic research.
