ADAPT and OSi enable open data access for COVID-19 app developers and researchers

Posted on: 28 April 2020

Researchers at ADAPT, the SFI Research Centre for Digital Media Technology hosted by Trinity College Dublin, and Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) have enabled open data access to the COVID-19 Health surveillance monitor via the Geohive’s Dataportal and the government’s Open Data portal.

This should be a major help to researchers and app developers.

The COVID-19 Health Surveillance Monitor (Ireland) data that are being regularly published through gov.ie and government websites are now available as open data in the high quality (5-star) Linked Open Data format at http://data.geohive.ie/covidData.html and at https://data.gov.ie/dataset/covid-19-linked-data-frontend.

This linked data format will facilitate easier data integration into data analysis systems and web apps being developed by researchers and app developers.

The Geohive Dataportal has been developed by Ordnance Survey Ireland and the SFI ADAPT research centre for publication of geospatial related data as Linked Open Data.

The portal allows third parties to consult authoritative administrative boundary data and selected data about buildings, and also enables the development of novel applications on top of these.
