To meet the varying needs of potential students, we offer all our MSc courses as either a 1 year full-time course or a 2 year part-time course. To complete your MSc you must gain 90 ECTS. This is made up of 3 Compulsory Modules (50 ECTS) along with 8 Elective Modules (of which 4 modules are taken from your chosen specialisation).
The following information is provided for you if you are thinking of undertaking the MSc in Engineering as a one year full-time postgraduate course. The degree programme is divided into three parts: two 10-week semesters of taught courses (September - April inclusive) with an average of 12 lectures per week; a major dissertation is undertaken during the second half of the course (April - September inclusive). These modules are spread over the two 10-week semesters.
The following information is provided for you if you are thinking of undertaking the MSc in Engineering as a part-time postgraduate course over two years. The degree programme is divided into a number of parts: four 10-week semesters of taught courses over the first, second and third years (September - April inclusive) with an average of 8 lectures per week (Lectures are held from Monday to Friday during office hours (9-5pm)); a major dissertation is undertaken during the second half of the course. As a part-time student, you must gain 45 ECTS or 30 ECTS per year, based on your choice of registration on the course over two or three years, respectively.
The pass mark for all elements is 50%. The overall mark for the course is the credited weighted average of the mark awarded in each module. To qualify for the award of the MSc degree, students must achieve an overall average mark of at least 50%, achieve a pass mark in M3 Dissertation module and either i) pass taught modules amounting to 60 ECTS or ii) pass taught modules amounting to at least 50 and have a mark of not less than 40% in the failed modules.
Those students who achieve an overall average mark 70% or above both for the course and in CE7M03 Dissertation Phase 2 will be awarded a distinction. A distinction cannot be awarded if a candidate has failed any credit during the course. Examination of course modules (typically in May) and completion of a Major Dissertation in your chosen specialisation (September deadline).
